This webcast is the second in a series of 3 webcasts that provide information on: the need to capture nutrients for recycling off-farm, global phosphorus supplies, and technologies that are being used on-farm to capture nitrogen and phosphorus from manure. This presentation was originally broadcast on December 13, 2013. More… Continue reading “Capturing Valuable Nutrients from Manure: Part 2”
Capturing Valuable Nutrients from Manure: Part 1
This webcast is the first in a series of 3 webcasts that will provide information on: the need to capture nutrients for recycling off-farm, global phosphorus supplies, and technologies that are being used on-farm to capture nitrogen and phosphorus from manure. This presentation was originally broadcast on November 15, 2013. More… Continue reading “Capturing Valuable Nutrients from Manure: Part 1”
Proper Closure of Earthen Manure Storage Structures
When confined animal facilities cease operation, earthen manure storage and treatment structures must be closed properly to ensure that they pose little risk to the environment. This presentation was originally broadcast on October 21, 2011. More… Continue reading “Proper Closure of Earthen Manure Storage Structures”
Anaerobically Digested Manures
This webcast shares information on: monitoring protocols for anaerobic digesters, fate of nitrogen from manure after it has been anaerobically digested (AD), effect of AD manure on grass yield and nitrogen uptake, the fate of bacteria from manure after it has been AD, and the fate of bacteria after land application of AD manure. This presentation was originally broadcast on May 21, 2011. More… Continue reading “Anaerobically Digested Manures”
Utilizing Liquid Livestock Manure as a Top-dress to Wheat and Side-dress to Corn
This webcast discusses five years of on-farm research plots where liquid swine and dairy manure has been applied to soft red winter wheat fields and compared to urea as a spring top-dress nitrogen source. Research plots have utilized a Veenhuizen toolbar and a Peecon toolbar to incorporate liquid manure into standing wheat and more recently a dragline has been utilized to make manure application more efficient and reduce soil compaction. This presentation was originally broadcast on January 21, 2011. More… Continue reading “Utilizing Liquid Livestock Manure as a Top-dress to Wheat and Side-dress to Corn”
Manure Application in No-Till
Novel Approaches to Manure Application in No-Till. This webcast features some of what has been learned about the agronomic, economic and environmental effects of several novel approaches to incorporating manure in no-till systems. This presentation was originally broadcast on September 17, 2010. More… Continue reading “Manure Application in No-Till”
Manure Spills and Emergency Planning
Managing Manure Spills and AFO/CAFO Emergency Planning. This presentation was originally broadcast on July 9, 2010. More… Continue reading “Manure Spills and Emergency Planning”
Manure Nutrients, Cover Crops, and Slurry Seeding
Cover crops are being promoted as a way to keep manure nutrients from leaching or running off during ‘idle’ months in the field. Coupling manure application and cover crops: Can it work and what are the benefits? This presentation was originally broadcast on January 15, 2010. More… Continue reading “Manure Nutrients, Cover Crops, and Slurry Seeding”
Air Emissions After Manure Land Application Including Subsurface Application of Poultry Litter and Solid Manure
When manure is land applied there are many different gases emitted, including greenhouse gases and those that contribute to odors. How much is emitted and how does that change with different application methods? This presentation was originally broadcast on September 18, 2009. More… Continue reading “Air Emissions After Manure Land Application Including Subsurface Application of Poultry Litter and Solid Manure”
